Our Origins

Founded in 1985 by Fred van Wolffelaar, Lavertu began with a simple yet powerful belief: beauty should feel intentional and thoughtfully made. Before starting Lavertu, Fred worked in cosmetic distribution, gaining insight into how products were developed — and how they could be improved.

Determined to bring more soul, design and detail into cosmetics, he began developing Lavertu independently. His early sketches shaped the brand’s first identity, including the iconic Terre de Soleil compact — a symbol of artistic instinct and the foundation of Lavertu’s enduring values.

A Family Legacy

Today, the second generation continues this legacy with the same dedication to quality and design. Led by Raymond, Roxanne and Hedwig, Lavertu remains committed to creating makeup that feels elegant, comforting and thoughtfully crafted.
